Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week (Thanks to MABB)

I was looking thru a Beauty bloggers site http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com when I cam across a post that she had called What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week? It sounded like a cool posting so I decided to steal the idea and TAG myself.

My Best: Having a great hair week, despite the hot weather in NYC! :)
My Worst: Finding 3 pimples on my face...total FAIL! :(

L'Oreal Paris HIP Jelly Balms

I think I have seriously been out of the loop with this one! Yes, once again thanks to You Tube I kept hearing all the raves about this jelly balm. I said to myself, is it that serious that I keep hearing about it? So I needed to check it out for myself. This is the first time I purchased a product from L'Oreal Paris, the company never really called my attention. While in the drugstore during lunch (I swear that that's my favorite spot)...I decided to have a look at them and purchase two of them.

L'Oreal Paris HiP Jelly Balms

These balms are very moisturizing, smell great and are very pigmented! I love how the packaging is nice and sleek and in a pot. What I like about this product best is that for being a balm it makes your lips look nice and shiny as if you have lip gloss on. There are six shades to choose from and the price is very affordable and I think they could easily be compared to a MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner. Plush is a sheer pretty pale pink while Succulent is like a sheer purple.

L’Oreal Paris claims their New HiP Jelly Balm will be: “A Pop of sheer shine”, “A light, soothing balm”, and a look of “Sweet temptation”. The high intensity pigments (hence, HIP) are supposed to soothe and condition your lips while keeping the look fresh and sweet.

As a mom, this is a great product for those mom's on the go!

The Joys of Lil' Boys

Sometimes I wonder what would I do without my little boy Brayan, he is the joy of my life.  Being a mom is a FULL-TIME JOB in every aspect of the word., it seems like your job is never done! There are no days off, breaks or vacations. Only God and our Mothers know the struggle we tend to go through.

Anyways, Brayan is 1 1/2 yrs old and a smart lil' guy. He amazes me at times! This week alone he started counting from 1-5 and showing me with his fingers. He also loves music and you can catch him singing all the tunes from the Nick Jr. channel. (Gotta ♥ Nick Jr.) Lately he has been really into cars, he loves making vrrroom noises while he drags himself on the floor. Don't you love it how a toddler's favorite word is "No". OMG...this little boy is always telling me no. I ask: "Brayan did you poopy", he says: "No". Then as my duty, I check his diaper and he clearly is. Don't get me wrong, he loves baths but I don't understand why boys love to get dirty. I guess it's just in their genes!

What are the things that your Toddlers do that just makes you laugh?

Top Picks: Moisturized Lips

I confess I'm guilty of being obsessed with lip balms. I have a tendency to collect them because I love how they smell or taste, that's one of qualities I look for in a lip balm / chap-stick. Here are my favorites!

Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine: A buttery balm that melts onto the lips and cheeks for a pretty touch of color, great nude color!

Burt's Bees Lip Balm w/ Pomegranate Oil: This replenishing and hydrating natural lip balm is infused with the antioxidant goodness of pomegranate oil. It replenishes moisture to reveal smooth, healthy lips, while it coats them with a hint of color for an even-toned appearance.

Nivea Kiss of Moisture: Light weight formula that absorbs quickly and provides long lasting moisturization. It leaves lips feeling soft and smooth.

Eos Lip Balm in Honey Dew: Packaged in a sleek round, rubberized ball, the eos lip balms are more than just pretty, though and great tasting. These bad boys are packed with antioxidant-rich Vitamin E, soothing shea butter and jojoba oil, eos keeps lips moist, soft and sensationally smooth.

Soft Lips in Vanilla: Silky smooth stick glides on to moisturize and protect your lips beautifully. The slender stick is packed with soothing emollients to prevent dryness and chapping; it has an SPF 20, to protect your pucker from the sun’s harmful rays. Comes in different flavors, my favorite is the original in vanilla.

What are your favorites?

Miracle in a Bottle!

I'm always on the look for new hair products, especially deep conditioners. Being a Dominican I have always used or bought the one's that the hair stylist at my local salon recommends or whatever my mom/step-mom are using. These deep conditioners can run about $30-$50, depending where you purchase it from.

Getting to my point now, I recently discovered a new products at the drugstore...yay for Drugstores! It's called Aussie Deeeep 3 Minute Miracle Moisture Treatment, retails for about $2.99 - 3.99.

What it Does: Deeply intense conditioning, accented with Australian aloe, penetrates dry or damaged hair. Sure it's really deep and super intense. But Moist 3 Minute Miracle, accented with natural Australian Aloe and jojoba oil has a playful side too. It repairs split ends and smoothes rough cuticles, so your hair will be in perfect condition in just 3 minutes.

The conditioner comes in a unique plastic 8 fl. oz. bottle that sits on its cap. Actually there is no cap to pop up (cap can be twisted open), as all you have to do is squeeze the bottle and the conditioner comes out. I LOVE this bottle! It even has some raised ridges on the side for added grip in the shower.

Final Thoughts: This is the BEST & CHEAPEST conditioner I have ever tried! Leaves your hair silky soft and smelly yummy. I have color treated hair and most products leave my hair dry and feeling hard as if I didn't condition my hair. So just give it a try!

Current Obsession: Nail Lacquer a.k.a Nail Polish

Since it's Spring/ Summer time, there's nothing like pampering yourself with Mani & Pedi's. Lately I have been obsessing with nail polish, which is weird because I never bought any. I just always used the colors the salons provide, why spend money on one when you have so much to choose from. Yea ok, whatever...that is not the case anymore! Every time I go into a drugstore or beauty supply I see myself grabbing a nail polish. My favorite brands at the time are OPI, Sephora by OPI and Essie. They seem to be the ones that dry the fasted, God know I have no patience for waiting for my nails to dry. Yesterday I bought 2 Nail Laquers by OPI, one from the Pink Collection called It's a Girl and the other from the Shrek collection called What's with the Cattitude? The Shrek collection has amazing colors and I wanted to get them all, maybe next time! Luckily I was at a beauty supply which had OPI for $6.99, which is a great price. Drugstores usually sell the brand for $8.50, which is way too much!

Shrek Collection

Now my Question is...Which colors should I get next?

iVi Scents...might be better then Lush!

Looking for some new bath and body products to try? Looking for the perfect gift?  Or maybe you are just tired of Lush? I introduce you to iVi Scents....they specialize in fresh nontoxic bath and body products like soaps, lotions, scrubs, and bath bombs.  Their scum free products will leave your skin hydrated, smooth, and noticeably softer from your first use!
Let me tell you how I discovered this company....like always I was on You Tube looking at my recent subscription videos. xXAllieCosmeticsxX a known beauty guru had a video review on this company. Here is a link to her blog if you are interested http://alliesmakeupcorner.blogspot.com .

I wasn't at all intrigued, thinking it might just be the same old bath products I can find at Lush. She described that the soaps smelled amazing and lathered well and that the body lotions and scrubs left her skin feeling amazing! Towards the end of the video she said that if you went to this link http://www.iviscents.com/freegift you can receive a free gift. Once she said that I was sold, I'm such a sucker for free gifts. So I went to the link and emailed the company saying that I saw a review about their products from a Beauty Guru on YT and was sent a $5 off coupon. (Whoo Hoo) For purposes of just trying out the the brand I ordered the iSmell Soap Birthday Cake (pictured on the right). Let me tell you that this soaps smells good enough to eat and really does lather well and leaves your skin feeling nice and clean, while smelling yummy. iVi Scents was nice enough to send me a sample of their Hawaian Wedding Cake soap and this one reminds me of a tropical cake because it has hints of pineapples. Therefore, I completely and honestly recommended you to try out their products and I am pretty sure you will like them. I can't wait to place and order for some more soaps, a body scrub and a lotion.

One last thing, I like how the soap was nicely packaged as  you can see and how it was labeled. They also send you a personalized card with your name on it, your packaged  item, the date and a thank you for your order. It says a lot when a company takes the time to make sure their products are shipped out nicely and that they have a great presentation, instead of just being thrown in a box.

You can go to http://www.iviscents.com to place your first order...Happy Shopping!

Should I meet mark?! Hmmmm...that is the question

Lately, I have been checking out a lot of blogs since I have all this free time at work. (Shhh...don't tell my boss!) I keep running into some bloggers that swear by mark products. I don't want to go through the hassle of ordering from someone else, so I was thinking of maybe why not just join. It's only $20 and you receive a free starter kit worth $70, which is AWESOME!

I'm not really much of a sales person, so I highly doubt that I would sell anything. (Maybe just to friends and family)  My initial thought was to join so that I can try out the products and receive some discounts along the way. As a young mom, I try not to splurge too much on high end cosmetics because I do have a child to feed and he is my 1st priority in life. Anyways, let's see how this goes! Let me know if any of you are mark rep's or if you have tried any items that you really like. I always like to hear about other products that I haven't tried.

Central Park Zoo

This past weekend I decided to take my toddler to one of the zoo's in New York City, the Central Park Zoo.
I didn't want him to spend the whole weekend cooped up in an apartment with me, so I thought this was a great thing to do. The Central Park Zoo is located on the Upper East Side on 63rd street. It is fairly small compared to the Bronx Zoo, but it is a great place to just take your kids for a few hours. The most interesting attractions where the Polar Bear, the Seals and the Rain-forest. On top of it all we got in for FREE!!! This nice guy that was in front of us offered to get us our ticket's since he had the Membership Card. That was extremely nice of him, which is rare since most of New Yorkers are rude. But, we had a great time!

Faves for the Month of April/May

These are the products that I am currently OBSESSED with!

Moisturizer: Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel - I have oily to combination skin and this is the only moisturizer that helps to control the oiliness that comes out of my face during the day.

Foundation: Mac Studio Fix Foundation Powder (C6) - I'm not a fan of liquid foundation, so this works for me well.

Blush: NYC Blushable Cream Stick (Big Apple Blush) This sheer formula has a satin finish and can be layered for as much or as little color as you want. I love this blush so much that I currently own one other color and I am thinking about getting the rest.

Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7 Liners (Bourbon) - This eyeliner goes on smooth, has great staying power and is not as harsh as a black one. Since I recently dyed my hair medium brown, I love how this liner looks on me.

Lip Balm: Burts Bees (Pomegranate) - I am obsessed with chapsticks, I have a ton of them! This ordinary-looking chapstick is a wonderful way to keep lips hydrated, with the added bonus of a nice, rosy color. Smells and taste great, I have a habit of buying chapsticks that have a yummy taste.

Perfume: Flora by Gucci - Gucci Flora is a subtle, sophisticated, floral fragrance inspired by princesses from the past, present, and future. The Flora Donna is a young, classic, and refined woman with the 'Gucci edge' of power and sensuality. I try not to wear it everyday since I don't want it to run out, but I can't help myself!

Nail Polish: OPI Nail Lacquer (Dim Sum Plum) - I first saw this color on a guru on YT and I loved it, got a Mani and Pedi the next day with that same color.

What are you Favorite Items?

Momma got a "NEW PAIR" of shoes!

Yes, I have once again been a "victim" of temptation! As I have mentioned in a previous blog post, I joined this website called ShoeDazzle. It is a site where you can join (for free) and purchase (with no obligations) a pair of shoes monthly for $39.95, from the selection the stylists have picked for you on that month. Ok, with that said I didn't really liked the selection I was offered and decided to skip the month of May. Not remembering that I had a credit for April, (you have until the 6th of the month to skip it, if you don't...you get charged) I noticed a posting they had made a few days ago about this new shoe that was going to be added to everyone's showroom.
                                         011-000021-0200
Nancy proves once and for all that a shoe doesn't need to be boring to be versatile.

10% of the sales actually go towards a good cause, the Nancy Davis Foundation! The Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis is dedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure of MS.

Summer of Love

I recently took advantage of the Friends and Family sale that Urban Decay was having a few weeks ago and decided to purchase this new eyeshadow palette that was recently released with their summer collection.

Summer of Love Eyeshadow Palette $29

Swatches

This palette includes four eye shadows, a travel-sized Sin Eyeshadow Primer Potion, and a 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Bourbon. I love the eye pencil because it is less dramatic then wearing a regular black eyeliner. I played with the palette one afternoon while off from work and this is what I came up with.

The eye-shadows are nice and shimmery and easy to blend. You can create a nice natural look or the perfect smokey eye with a pop of color. These palette is perfect for this years summer look!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Funny how on certain holidays, us as Americans become whatever nationality that holiday portrays...lol! I just wanted to share some fun facts about "Cinco de Mayo" (May 5th), is not to be confused for the Mexican Independence Day. Cinco de Mayo is a voluntarily observed holiday that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla and in the United States. While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day, the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.
With that said, enjoy the day....especially Happy Hour since most Americans will be Mexicans for the day!

Happy Mother's Day!

So, as you all know Mother's Day is this weekend (May 9th). Mother's Day is an annual holiday that recognizes mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well the positive contributions that they make to society. This would be my 2nd time celebrating it, still feels some what weird to be considered a mom now. In my family we don't really have any special traditions, we just usually take advantage of a holiday or an occasion to go out to eat.

What are your plans for Mother's Day? How will you be honouring or recognizing your Mom? Or what special activities does your family have planed for you?
